Artist Statement

“I believe in being unique, creative, thinking outside the canvas and taking art to a whole new level.”

I am inspired by nature, my surroundings, geometric shapes and architecture.  In my paintings, I combine different medias and textures to reflect my ideas and surroundings.  These unique media combinations allow my paintings to take on a whole new dimension. One of my techniques is to add stained glass to my paintings, while maintaining space between the glass and the canvas.  I am fascinated by the contrast of paint and glass and the way the light reflects off and thru the colored glass onto the canvas.

Since I am self-taught, I am always experimenting with different medias and techniques to create different styles. Often, I use non-traditional tools and objects to construct different textures and layers in my paintings.

Biography

Kyle Rainey, a Baton Rouge native, is a self-taught contemporary multi-media artist.  Kyle has always had a passion for art and has been painting for many years.  The 8+ years, Kyle has been exploring different styles and techniques which set him apart from other contemporary artists of today.  Kyle has several unique painting styles and adds pieces of stained glass to many of his paintings, which combines two different art forms into one.  His unique combination of acrylic paint and stained glass adds depth, texture and a new perspective to the world of art.  Kyle uses translucent stained glass in some of his paintings to allow the bold colors of his art work to be viewable behind the glass.  When using translucent glass, Kyle creates space between the glass and the canvas, which gives the painting a 3 dimensional look.  Keeping with the style of adding glass to his paintings, Kyle also has a wine bottle painting collection.  In this collection, he adds real wine bottles and wine glasses to his paintings.  In some of these paintings, Kyle paints the background to resemble the wine label and then creates a pouring effect using acrylic paint to resemble wine.

Although Kyle has a unique trademark style of adding stained glass or wine bottles to many of his paintings, he is not confined to one technique.  When you see a Kyle Rainey original, (with or without glass) you will notice right away his unique painting style and use of rich vivid colors.

All of Kyle’s canvases are gallery style canvases with a 1.5” to 2” lipped edge, which he also paints.  Kyle finishes his paintings with a clear gloss, which makes the colors richer and protects against fading.  Please note that Kyle spends a great deal of time ensuring that his glass and other objects are securely fastened to the painting.

Kyle gets ideas for his paintings from everyday experiences.  He sees art in almost everything he looks at and is constantly exploring new media and ideas.  Please check back often.  You never know what Kyle will come up with next.
